5 way to help you stay on track during the holidays

The holiday season can be a tricky time to stay on track. There might be more outings, more treats available, so you have less time to move and more food to eat! Finding a way to enjoy yourself, be stress free and still work on your goals seems like an impossible task. But when we really break it down, staying on track really means to continue to put in the effort required for a desired result. So as long as there's effort, we're on track, right? So how can we continue to put in effort while there's a lot going on.

1. Plan Ahead

One of the best things you can do is be proactive in your planning. Write down what your upcoming week is like and make changes where necessary. Have an evening event when you usually go to the gym? Get in a shorter workout in the morning or lunch. Have a work potluck for lunch and not your usual lunch, go for a walk in the evening. Do your best to plan what changes come up, because they will come up.

2. Adjust your goals

Sometimes it's unrealistic to have the same schedule in place and get to everything without burning yourself out. Sometimes you won't make the same progress as you usually do (but when is progress consistent though anyways). You might have to go from working out 5 days a week to 3 days, you might see only a 1lb difference this month compared to the 4lbs you saw last month. You might only have time for a 40 minute workout and not an hour. Put in what you can when you can. 

3. Create new systems 

You might have to do some new things you're not used to. This may be the month you order a meal prep company service for your meals instead of cooking your own. You may need to wake up 30 minutes earlier than your usual and get in some extra cardio. You might be used to your after dinner snack, but since there are more snacks at your holiday parties, you might have to ditch your late night one just for now. There is always a change you can make to make it work, you just have to be creative!

4. Ditch the all or nothing mentality 

We often think if we can't do it all then why do anything at all. And it's this mindset that will always hold us back or stop us from progressing towards our goals. Even the littlest bit of effort moves us along. So it may not be the same effort you're used to but its better then nothing at all. Keep going!

5. Allow grace 

It's not always going to go according to plan. But there's nothing worse than beating yourself up about it. Give yourself grace to make mistakes and learn from them when you can.

Remember, the holiday season is a time to connect with loved ones and celebrate. With a few mindset changes and habit strategies, you can stay on track with your health and wellness goals while still enjoying all the festivities that the holidays have to offer. Happy holidays!
